While the Flamme Dorée collection put a fresh spin on Le Creuset’s classic retro style, the Modern Heritage collection, launched in August, takes a decidedly contemporary approach. It may be divisive, but I’m still a fan.

Piglet in Bed is already beloved for its premium homeware and bedding – a favorite of the Homes & Gardens team and widely regarded as one of the best places to buy bedding. Wallow, however, takes things in a new direction, offering an exclusive range of hand and body washes, oils and creams, plus three scented candles.

Even a quick scroll through the Piglet in Bed website is enough to make you crave slowing down and switching off – ideally by cocooning yourself in some soft, new sheets, of course. And from what I can tell, that’s precisely Wallow’s aim: to craft luxurious products that feel like tranquillity, bottled.

Of the two signature scents in the collection, I’m most excited about Untamed Moss – an earthy blend of patchouli, bergamot, geranium, lavender, and lemon. Refreshing yet grounded, it feels like the perfect companion for cozy, self-care-filled evenings in the months ahead.

The second scent, Eternal Sun, blends coconut, grapefruit, ylang-ylang, and jasmine, with subtle notes of petitgrain (bitter orange) and calendula (marigold). Both scents are available as a bath and body oil, a hand and body wash, or a hand and body cream. You can also opt for a dedicated hand cream, a combined wash-and-cream set, or convenient mini versions.

Piglet in Bed has always placed a strong emphasis on ethical sourcing and natural materials, and Wallow continues that tradition. The packaging is recyclable and can be topped up using eco-friendly refills, while the candles – available in Untamed Moss, the sea-salt-inspired Rock Pool, and the citrus-spice Morning Breath – are made in the UK from natural soy wax.

Many bath and body brands promise to transform our wellbeing routines, but self-care isn’t just about relaxation – it’s about carving out essential downtime in our hectic lives. After a long day, there’s nothing more meaningful to me than a hot bath, a few indulgent body-care products, and one of the best candles. Yet sometimes, instead of feeling restorative, it can start to feel like just another task to tick off my list.

Blackberry cheesecake

This blackberry cheesecake uses some of the best of the season's produce and is so easy to whip up, plus it looks really pretty and quite professional, with the blackberry swirl topping – a crowd-pleaser that won't hang around for long.

Ingredients (serves 10 – 12)

• For the blackberry swirl:
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries (about 5 oz)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp plus 1 level tbsp cornstarch, divided
• For the crust:
  • 7 oz (about 2 cups) ginger biscuits or gingersnap cookies, crushed
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt
• For the filling:
  • 1½ lb (24 oz) full-fat cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1¼ cups sour cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Finely grated zest of ½ lemon
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla bean paste or extract
  • 5 large eggs, at room temperature

Method

• Make the blackberry purée:
  • Put blackberries and sugar in a small saucepan with 1 tbsp water. Heat gently, stirring, for about 5 minutes until the berries soften and burst.
  • Purée the berries with a stick blender (we recommend the Braun Multiquick immersion hand blender from Amazon) or mash well with a fork, then return to the pan.
  • Mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp water to make a slurry, and stir into the berries. Simmer for 1 minute until slightly thickened. Set aside to cool.
• Make the crust:
  • Pulse the cookies in a food processor (the Magimix Food Processor from Williams Sonoma is our top pick) to fine crumbs. Mix with melted butter and salt.
  • Press mixture evenly over the base and slightly up the sides of a 9-inch springform pan (this Nordicware springform pan on Amazon comes highly rated). Chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.
• Prepare the filling:
  • Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Using a wooden spoon, beat in the sour cream.
  • Add the remaining 1 tbsp cornstarch, sugar, lemon zest, and vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing just until combined and smooth.
• Assemble cheesecake:
  • Pour half the cream cheese mixture over the crust and dot with a few teaspoons of the blackberry purée.
  • Cover with the remaining cream cheese mixture and smooth the top. Drizzle remaining blackberry purée over the surface and run a skewer or thin knife through it to create a marbled effect.
• Bake:
  • Place the cheesecake on a baking sheet (this Good Cook nonstick baking sheet from Amazon will do the trick) and bake on the middle shelf for about 1½ hours, until set but slightly wobbly in the center.
  • Turn off the oven, crack the door open, and leave the cheesecake inside to cool slowly.
• Chill and serve:
  • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. Run a knife around the edge before releasing from the pan.

The Marlow pillow has amassed more than 2,300 online reviews and an average rating of four stars, and it certainly impressed our testers – in fact, they named it the best pillow you can buy in 2025. In our Marlow pillow review, our former Sleep Editor, Emilia, found that it suits almost every sort of sleeper, and it's ideal for easing neck and shoulder pain thanks to its clever and unique adjustable feature.

While some adjustable pillows require extra inserts or stuffing (which you'll need to store when not in use), the Marlow pillow 'incorporates an intuitive design to maximize comfort and minimize mess,' says Emilia. It's compact and yet incredibly effective, seamlessly supporting back, side, and front sleepers.

'There are two zippers: one at the top and one at the bottom of the pillow,' Emilia explains. 'All you need to do is open and close the zippers, letting air in and out of the pillow until you reach your optimal firmness and feel.' Sounds like a breeze and something I'm really intrigued to try. No more buying multiple pillows to find they don't quite suit your sleep style.

I'm a habitual stomach sleeper, which means I would need to unzip both sides for a flatter feel – but since the Marlow pillow is filled with memory foam, it will easily adjust to the most suitable shape.

'Like a lot of memory foam pillows, the Marlow Pillow is soft and responsive, made to mold to the shape of your head,' Emilia explains.

The Marlow pillow also boasts a number of cooling properties – although Emilia notes that it isn't the best cooling pillow on the market, so you may prefer to look elsewhere if that's your main priority.

'The cotton sateen shell is breathable, and the ventilated zipper gussets do their best to boost breathability, but it didn't feel all that different to my ordinary down pillow,' she says. 'If you suffer from night sweats or hot flushes, you might want something a little stronger.'

However, the verdict on the Marlow pillow is largely positive, with many customers praising its ability to balance softness and firmness, while also helping to ease neck and shoulder pain. At 25% off, there couldn't be a better time to give it a try.

Wondering whether to purchase some new pillows? These are the signs it's time to replace your pillows – and these handy pillow buying rules will help you make a reliable purchase.

Ingredients

• 10½ oz (about 3 cups) peeled, deseeded pumpkin or butternut squash, diced
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 medium red onion, chopped
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 tsp ground cumin
• 1 can (14 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed (reserve 2 tbsp liquid)
• 5 tbsp pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
• ⅓ cup tomato salsa
• 2 ripe avocados, pitted and diced
• 2 tbsp cilantro (fresh coriander), chopped
• 1 green onion, very finely chopped
• 1 handful cherry tomatoes (about ½ cup), roughly chopped
• Juice of 1 lime
• 5 tbsp vegetable or corn oil
• 10–12 small corn tortillas (or 4 large tortillas, cut to size)
• 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
• 2 oz crumbly, tangy cheese such as queso fresco or feta

Method

• Roast the pumpkin: Preheat oven to 375°F. Toss diced pumpkin with 1 tbsp olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread on a baking sheet (like these Nordicware baking sheets from Walmart) and roast for 25–30 minutes until tender and just beginning to brown.
• Cook onion and beans: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet (we like the MadeIn Ceramiclad pans from Crate & Barrel) over medium heat. Sauté the onion for 5 minutes until softened but not browned. Add garlic, cumin, and black beans (plus 2 tbsp reserved liquid). Cook gently for 5 minutes, mashing some of the beans lightly with the back of a spoon to thicken. Keep warm.
• Toast the pumpkin seeds: In a dry pan over medium heat, toast the pumpkin seeds for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden. Remove from pan and set aside.
• Make the avocado salsa: In a bowl, combine diced avocados, cilantro, green onion, cherry tomatoes, and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
• Fry or toast the tortillas: Heat 5 tbsp vegetable or corn oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry tortillas one at a time for about 1 minute per side until crisp, then drain on paper towels. (Alternatively, bake tortillas brushed lightly with oil at 375°F until crisp.)
• Assemble the tostadas: Spread the black bean mixture evenly over tortillas. Top with roasted pumpkin, shredded lettuce, avocado salsa, and crumbled Wensleydale cheese. Sprinkle with toasted pumpkin seeds.
• Serve immediately: Offer extra salsa, sour cream, and lime wedges at the table.

Frustratingly, when I found Martha's particular ladle on QVC it had sold out (watch this space in case it comes back), but luckily, I've hunted down some great alternatives.

The OXO steel ladle from Amazon and the LEORX square soup ladle from Walmart are almost identical to the Martha Stewart-designed square ladles on offer at Macy's and QVC. And just like these wildly popular ladles, both the Walmart and Amazon finds are non-toxic thanks to their stainless steel finish.

'I haven’t personally tested either option, but I would probably recommend the OXO steel ladle,' says our kitchen appliances editor Lydia Hayman. 'I’m a huge fan of OXO tools. They’re thoughtfully designed, ergonomic, durable, and reasonably priced – trusted by myself and many of my chef friends.'

Both the Amazon option and the LEORX square soup ladle from Walmart are crafted from stainless steel, too. 'The material is top-notch and non-toxic,' Lydia emphasizes. 'You don't want black plastic utensils anywhere near your hot soups or stews.'

While ladles (and particularly the square variety) might not seem like a kitchen priority, Martha Stewart raves about them. And I've since discovered their many benefits, but square ladles are in fact ideal utensils – both for serving soups and decanting liquids into awkwardly-shaped containers.

Of course, it's wise to invest in the best kitchen appliances for soup season, but if you're planning to batch-cook a lot this fall, or host a potluck dinner, expert-approved utensils like these will be a real time-saver.

'Why have a round ladle that will not fill a jar easily?' says Martha in a video with QVC. 'It'll spill over the edges of the jar, and you'll usually have to use a funnel to fill the jar. But if you have a square ladle, it goes right in.'

The LEORX square soup ladle features a handy hanging loop for easy storage, while the OXO steel ladle boasts two pour spouts and a non-slip handle.

Both benefit from angled heads, allowing you decant or serve with no drips or mess. 'These square ladles replace round ladles and short-handled ladles,' Martha confirms. So essentially, you're getting two utensils for the price of one and saving space in your kitchen drawer. I'm sold.

ripple+ home's reed diffuser collection spans six blends, each imagined as a kind of 'destination' – a mood or state of being, united in the goal of quietly elevating a room. Formulated with natural, sustainable ingredients and developed with master perfumers in Grasse (the famous perfume regions of France), the scents are purposeful: relaxation, focus, joy – or, in my case, a bit of South of France escapism for just $40.

Now, four months later, I'm reassessing: did it hold up? Did the design survive multiple apartment reshuffles? Did it actually deliver on that Riviera fantasy? My unfiltered take on ripple+ home’s Château Gardenia reed diffuser, below.

First impressions

The biodegradable packaging was the first win – always nice – but what really impressed me was the single reed. Not twelve slender sticks jammed into a jar, just one, which is a small but refreshing change. It looked good alongside the asymmetric crystal-glass vessel, which read to me more like jewelry (Elsa Peretti for Tiffany came to mind) than tabletop accessory.

Candidly, at that point I wasn’t too worried about how it smelled. For $40, I’d unwrapped something that I knew would inhabit one of my shelves or tabletops for the foreseeable future. But then the scent – Château Gardenia – wafted through, crisp and refreshing, with a flicker of spice I didn’t expect to enjoy. Light enough to make your home smell nice, not something you’d get sick of in a week.

I followed the instructions: reed in, let it drink for a few hours, flip. After that, a once-a-week turn was enough to keep it going (the brand says every few days, but I occasionally forgot). The diffuser still managed to send this steady, low-key lift through my apartment – nothing aggressive, just a gentle reminder that I was supposed to be on the Côte d’Azur instead of in my walk-up.

How long did the scent last?

ripple+ home’s reed diffusers are built to scent medium spaces – about 250 sq ft, according to the brand – which feels ambitious given the vessel itself is only five inches tall and two wide. But the claim tracks. The fragrance lingers in the background, and travels from across the room, but slip too far to either side and it fades.

I don’t consider that a drawback – the always-on, heavy-hitting diffusers usually give me a headache. This is detectable in a lighter, more elegant way, drifting in behind me as I work at my desk, even months later.

As for the scent itself, I can’t say Château Gardenia transported me straight to the Côte d’Azur (to be fair, my time in actual French châteaux has been limited), but it stayed fresh, light, and just green enough. Not a total knockout, but reliably pleasant – which, for a home scent, is its own kind of success.

It’s been four months now – a month past ripple+ home’s three-month promise – and as you can see from the bottle on my shelf in the above photo, there’s still plenty left.

At this pace, I’d expect another three or four months of use. Maybe that’s down to me only flipping the reed once a week, maybe it’s the humidity of my studio – but either way, it feels like a win. Underpromise, overdeliver: exactly what you want from a new recruit.

Final thoughts

My blue-green tinged Château Gardenia vessel has made its rounds these past several months – bookshelf, coffee table, and now perched on my new credenza, beside a bouquet of forever roses and a trio of my favorite perfumes.

So, do I recommend it? Yes – it’s relatively affordable, surprisingly sculptural, and a scent you can actually live with. For $40, it outlasted its promises. I also think it would make an excellent gift for the design-minded person in your life. But my bigger takeaway about ripple+ home’s reed diffusers is more zeitgeist-y: I think this is where the future of home fragrance is heading.

Gen Z is obsessed with the multi-sensory. If a luxury brand launches a product, it probably comes with a perfume collab, a matcha tie-in, a limited-edition ice cream, and an influencer trip to Mykonos. Nothing exists in a vacuum anymore – and scent, being the most transportive of senses, is often at the center of the whole experience.

That’s a tall order for a humble reed diffuser, but the fact that ripple+ sparked the thought at all says more than any other home scent I’ve tried in recent years.

I’ll be buying more. Below, three more ‘destinations’ I haven’t yet visited – but fully intend to.

• 6 quail eggs
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 7 oz (about 1½ cups) smoked bacon lardons (or diced thick-cut bacon)
• 5 oz sourdough bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 3 cups)
• 1 large head escarole, leaves separated, washed, and dried
• 1 bunch spring onions (scallions), white parts sliced and green tops shredded
• For the dressing:
• 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
• 1 tbsp walnut oil (or additional olive oil)
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• Pinch of sugar
• ½ garlic clove, crushed
• 1 tsp whole-grain mustard
• Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method

• Cook the eggs: Bring a small saucepan of water to a boil. Gently lower in the quail eggs and simmer for 2 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Peel carefully and set aside.
• Cook the lardons and croutons: Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the lardons (or diced bacon) and cook until the fat has rendered and they’re just golden. Remove and drain on paper towels. Add the sourdough cubes to the pan and cook until crisp and golden. Remove and keep warm.
• Make the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, walnut oil, olive oil, sugar, garlic, mustard, salt, and pepper. Whisk in 1 tbsp of water to emulsify (try these mini whisks from Walmart).
• Assemble the salad: Toss the escarole leaves with half the dressing. Divide the dressed leaves among 4 plates. Top with lardons, croutons, and sliced spring onion whites.
• Finish and serve: Halve the quail eggs and divide evenly among plates. Drizzle with the remaining dressing and scatter the green onion tops on top. Serve immediately.

Method

• 12 slices sandwich bread (white, rye, or sourdough)
• 6 tbsp (¾ stick) salted butter, softened
• ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
• 2 tbsp freshly grated horseradish (optional)

• 3 cups (about 14 oz) cooked chicken, shredded or sliced

• 8 garlic cloves, crushed

• 2 cans (14 oz each) cherry tomatoes in juice
• 1 small sprig each fresh bay leaf, celery leaves, and parsley

• 2 cans (14 oz each) mixed beans (borlotti, red kidney) in tomato sauce
• Salt and pepper to taste

The method

• Heat half the oil in a large deep skillet or Dutch oven (we love the Lodge Dutch Oven from Walmart). Sauté steak strips for about 5 minutes until golden. Push them to the edge of the pan.
• Add the remaining oil and ground pork; brown over high heat for 10 minutes.
• Stir in onions, garlic, chili powder, jalapeños, tomatoes, herbs, sugar, and stock. Cover and simmer gently for 30 minutes or longer for deeper flavor.
• Uncover and add beans with their sauce. Taste and season generously with salt and pepper.
• For a milder chili, discard the jalapeños; for a thicker chili, mash some of the beans into the liquid (try this OXO Good Grips masher for non-stick cookware from Amazon). Serve hot with rice and a green salad.

Though it comes with some necessary tools, you would do better to use some of your own, like screwdrivers and drills. There are times you need to be careful like when building the back wall because the metal is fragile and it’s easy to strip the screws.

When you are building the product, you might notice a few features that point to an awkward or flimsy design. For example, you have to build a bracing structure to hold up the back wall of the grill, to stabilize the otherwise flimsy metal. One might expect on a four burner grill to just have strong enough metal without having to build support structures that are visible going forward, and reduce the usable space under the grill.

But, overall, the construction process is easy to understand, and with a little patience and know-how, you will be cooking in no time.

Design & first impressions

I took a step back after the Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill was set up, and the first thing I noticed was the copper accents. If you are sick of the same old black grill, the rose gold tones on the knobs and handles make for a slightly elevated-looking entertaining space.

It's also very spacious. The grill features 425 square inches of primary cooking surface, and an additional extra grilling space above that main cooking area. These are in addition to the searing section with the fifth burner in a separate part of the grill.

There's a small grease catch can is at the bottom of the grease trap, but it's small and perched in a way that if you bump the grill, grease can easily come out. The can should be larger or more stable.

What is the Kenmore grill like to use?

Using the Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill starts with a simple button, and within minutes, you are ready to cook. The easy start ignition is quick and easy to use, and the grill heats up faster than other grills I’ve used through the years. While I might typically allow 20 or even 30 minutes to ensure a grill is fully ready, with this grill, it was closer to 10 minutes.

One heated, cooking on the grill is straightforward, though there are a few spots and challenges to watch for. First, there are sections of the grill where the grates are a bit wide apart, and food can fall through if you aren’t careful. Also, there are a few spots on the grill that are unexpectedly hotter or colder than others. For example, the back right corner is a bit of a hot spot, while the back left corner gets very little heat. So, it takes some time to get to know your new grill’s perks in these ways.

As you finish cooking your food, you can move it to the upper rack to keep it warm, which provides a good amount of extra space. In addition, the fifth burner allows for searing at higher temperatures, heating up more than the regular surface.

When you are finished cooking on the grill, and after you’ve let it cool, cleaning the grill is pretty simple and typical of any grill with a brush and grill cleaner. In addition, the outer part of the grill needs to be wiped down periodically, too, as it was showing some dirt after just a few uses.

Changing the propane tank is simple and easy to access. You’ll also notice that the lid to the grill is quite lightweight and doesn’t slam shut when you are using it. This is helpful, but also could be contributing to some of the differences in heating across the surface — I’d hypothesize that maybe it isn’t keeping heat in as evenly as some other grills with heavier lids. Yet, it still works quite effectively.

Grilling performance

The Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill has four burners that do an excellent job heating up quickly and cooking a variety of foods thoroughly and in a reasonable amount of time compared to other grills. There are a few spots that are very obviously hotter or cooler than other spots. Here are the results on some classic, crowd-pleasing grill recipes.

Test 1: Chicken

Cooking meat on the grill was a frequent occurrence during the multiple months of testing, and throughout a typical week I cooked meat like fish, chicken, pork chops, and others frequently. In one such recipe, I marinated chicken breasts in Italian dressing, and cooked the meat at 350 degrees, which took around 5-10 minutes to heat to.

The thermometer said it maintained that temperature well throughout the cooking time, which was around 20 minutes, flipping once halfway through. The chicken turned out moist, but with a good level of crunch to the outside. I avoided cooking the chicken in the back left corner where I know the cool spot to be, and also more frequently checked on chicken in the back right corner, where it sometimes gets too hot.

Test 2 Steak

I tested the searing burner using a few steaks, after cooking the steak on the regular part of the grill. After cooking the steak to around medium or medium rare, I moved the steak over to the searing burner to finish up the outside without it further cooking the inside. Within a few minutes, including flipping the steaks on the searing burner, the outside had a nice, crisp, carmelized marinade finish, that you’d find in a local steak restaurant. However, the inside was not overdone, which helped control my ability to cook steaks for people in my family with multiple different preferences.

Test 3: Vegetables

I cooked asparagus on the grill, at around 400 degrees for just a few minutes. The grill heated up quickly, and the asparagus cooked evenly. I did not use a vegetable cooking basket, but probably should have, because skinnier vegetables will likely fall through the grates when you move them. This is because the grill grates on this grill move a bit when you are adjusting food, rather than staying perfectly still. So, there is slightly less room for error. But, the vegetables came out crunchy and delicious in just a few minutes.

Cleaning, storage & maintenance

You’ll notice that within a few uses, both the inside and outside of the grill will need to be cleaned, especially if you are grilling larger amounts of food or using the product more frequently. Compared to other grills I’ve used, it wasn’t quite as easy to remove food residue from the grates using a grill brush and cleaner. In addition, slightly more food stuck to the grates than some other options. So, if you do buy this grill, keep your cleaning materials handy.

If you know how to clean a grill, you'll know that the outside also needs attention, especially if you don’t use a grill cover, which is sold separately. Wiping down the outside of the grill is usually sufficient, and basic dust and dirt easily comes off.

You should frequently clean the grease pan by pulling it out and scrubbing it with a brush, which is a straightforward process without issue.

Maintenance of the grill is largely about changing the propane tank. When you have to change it, the hose you connect to the tank is close to the nozzle, so it can take a little effort to fit the tank into the spot, and to connect the hose to the tank. So, this is a slightly irritating part of the design that you need to account for.

How does the Kenmore grill compare?

The Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill is comparable to other mid range grills at this price point. If this was a product I was planning to use a few times per week, I’d consider leveling up to one that’s a few hundred dollars more that has a bit more of an intuitive, convenient, and sturdy design.

Compared to the best gas grills we've tested at a similar price and with similar features, this grill is slightly more difficult to build, with slightly more flimsy construction. It has more hot and cold pockets throughout the cooking surface which consumers should note. However, it’s a better-looking grill than some other options if that’s a consideration.

Should you buy it?

I would consider purchasing the Kenmore 4 Burner Gas Grill, but also would carefully research if other comparable options are a better fit, given how I would be using the grill. I’d like to see this grill modify parts of its design to be more user-friendly, and to see fewer hot and cold spots throughout. However, it did perform well at doing its job of cooking accurately to its temperature, and has a good amount of surface area with a lightweight lid that is easy to lift.

I think you should carefully consider the pros and cons of this grill before purchasing to ensure it’s right for your needs.

How I tested

I tested the Kenmore grill after it arrived at my residential house after requesting a media sample from the company, which they provided. I then built the grill using the instructions provided, and moved the grill to the porch for immediate testing over a few meals, then long term testing over a few months. I observed various features including the design and structure, along with the accuracy of the heating elements, the visual aesthetics of the product, and also how well it can be cleaned.

I conducted multiple recipe tests on various types of food on the grill, to determine how it would perform for a normal consumer’s needs. I also cooked for larger groups to see how much food could really fit and cook thoroughly, watching for hot and cold spots. Finally, I conducted extensive online research to determine what other users thought of the grill, comparing it to my own notes and observations.

I’ll admit, before watching Nate’s video, I had never even heard of a mustard pot. While I can envision a cluster of silver pots glittering in the candlelight at my next fall dinner party, Nate points out that mustard pots can be used in a variety of different ways.

'These will be great for a beautiful breakfast,' he notes. 'Jeremiah has a fantasy about what will sit on our kitchen table in Portugal. I showed him a photo of these online and said, "What about vintage mustard pots?" And here they are.'

Rosehip syrup ingredients

• 2lbs rosehips
• 5 1/4 cups water
• 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

Method

• Wash, drain and roughly chop your rosehips.
• Transfer the rosehips to a large pot, add the water, and bring to a boil.
• Reduce the heat and simmer for around 15 minutes.
• Strain twice using a muslin cloth and a colander to remove as much pulp as possible.
• Transfer the liquid back to your pot, add the sugar, and heat gently until the sugar has dissolved.
• Bring to the boil and cook for around 3 minutes, skimming off any residue on the surface if necessary.
• Decant the finished syrup into sterilized bottles, seal, and use within 4 months.

What to make with rosehip syrup

To answer that, it helps to rethink what retro style really means in 2025. Does it signal timeless charm, or simply feel dated? After a few summer hosting mistakes, I’m determined to get the potluck process just right in time for cozy fall gatherings. To make sure I do, I reached out to experts for their top tips on hosting the perfect potluck dinner.

1. Get creative with the theme

The menu might be the star of the show, but for me, the theme of a potluck is just as essential – though I often feel clueless when it comes to holiday hosting tips.

'As the host of the potluck, you're in charge of making the entree – whether that's grilled chicken for a classic barbecue or slow roasted pork shoulder for a Southern-style spread,' says cookbook author and recipe developer Alexis deBoschnek. 'I'd always recommend taking charge of the primary protein and trusting your guests with everything else.'

Though I'm always tempted to prepare something elaborate, simple recipes are the key here. I've learned to prioritize dishes I can batch-cook, helping to reduce the time I spend in the kitchen during the event itself.

'Try make-ahead dishes that get better as they sit, like tomato salad or braised short ribs,' advises Peter. 'Never underestimate the power of a beautiful crudité platter, either; it’s a showstopper that requires minimal prep.'

3. Batch-make your drinks

'Batching drinks is a host’s secret weapon,' says Peter. 'A pitcher of grapefruit Negronis or a cucumber spritz means you’re not playing bartender all night. Just be sure to have an enticing non-alcoholic option, too.'

Of course, you can cut down on prep time even further by delegating drinks to your guests instead. 'I always divide up non-food contributions like ice, drinks, or even the setup and cleaning,' says Virginia. 'Some guests might prefer to contribute time or supplies rather than cooking, which could end up benefiting you as a host if you dread setting up or washing the dishes.'

4. Offer clear guidance to your guests

Whether you compile a meticulous checklist or simply drop your guests a text message, being crystal clear with the food requests will guarantee an enjoyable (and seamless) potluck experience.

'I always advise that the host of a potluck create a menu plan split into mains, sides, salads, breads, desserts, and beverages,' says etiquette expert Nick Leighton. 'Invite your guests to take their pick, making sure to choose a different category once each has been filled.'

A vital tip? 'Whatever your guests bring, make sure that it doesn't require them to take over your kitchen before serving up,' Nick adds. 'Anything more than a few finishing touches can complicate things.'

5. Aim for a 'casually elegant' table setting

While I’ve seen plenty of simmer pot ideas online, it was Williams Sonoma's signature simmer pot recipe that really caught my eye. I love walking into their stores because they always smell so inviting, and it’s all thanks to the simmer pot quietly bubbling in the corner.

Before diving in myself, I consulted our kitchen appliances editor, Lydia Hayman, for some expert tips. Here’s everything you need to know about the summer simmer pot hack.

What is a summer simmer pot?

'Also called a stovetop potpourri, a summer simmer pot is a non-toxic, endlessly adaptable way to fragrance your home,' Lydia explains.

It couldn’t be easier to make: all you need is a large pot of water and a selection of herbs, spices, and aromatics. With a little stovetop magic, these simple ingredients transform into a naturally fragrant home.

• 2 oranges, cut into slices

Method

• Fill a large pot or Dutch oven with cold water and add in your ingredients.

• Carefully add in more water as it evaporates, and let your simmer pot bubble away for up to 2 hours.

What goes in a summer simmer pot?

The beauty of the simmer pot hack is that it can be customized depending on the ingredients you have on hand – and the kind of mood you're in. 'I almost went with the classic Williams Sonoma blend – lemons, rosemary, peppercorns, and vanilla extract – but it felt too bright and springlike for the turning leaves and cooler air outside,' Lydia explains.

I don't like the plastic pod machines you find in hotel rooms, with the watered-down taste and risk of chemical leaching, and I can't get going without a cup of proper coffee in the morning. As soon as I wake up, I'm chomping at the bit to get out of the hotel room to the nearest artisanal coffee shop. But really, I would prefer a slower start to the day...it's supposed to be a vacation, after all.

Since I use one of the best non-toxic coffee makers at home, I've been eager to try the AeroPress Go Plus coffee system, which promises BPA-free, richly flavored coffee that you can enjoy anywhere. It comes with a coffee tumbler that houses all the equipment; it's small enough to fit in your bag and light enough to lug around. I tested it for a week, taking it around with me, sipping the coffee, and noting down all the pros and cons.

Design

One thing I love about every AeroPress I've tested (I have already reviewed the AeroPress Original and the AeroPress Premium) is the packaging. They arrive in a cardboard cylinder which unfolds like a Christmas cracker.

Inside the AeroPress Go Plus box, there were more components than usual. The travel coffee system includes the AeroPress chamber, filter, stirring tool, coffee scoop, filter papers, and the coffee flask, which doubles as a storage container for the entire kit.

The actual 'coffee maker' part is near-identical to the AeroPress Original – I sat them side by side and couldn't spot a difference. Both are made from durable, BPA-free materials, but AeroPress Go Plus is made from a sturdier, shatterproof Tritan™ plastic, which safeguards it from wear and tear.

If you are already familiar with the brand and know how to use an AeroPress, it's probably the 'Russian doll' tumbler you'll be most interested in. It looks pretty utilitarian from the outside, which I suppose is on brand. No airs and graces, just some branding on the side, which I wasn't a big fan of (you'll see more pictures below).

The engineering is more exciting; it's double-walled, vacuum-insulated, and made from 18/10 stainless steel with a brushed matte exterior. It cleverly holds the AeroPress and all the accessories inside, while the lid twists on top and a magnetic slider seals the sip hole open and shut.

All in all, I found the AeroPress Go Plus lightweight and comfortable to hold. I couldn't wait to brew my coffee and take the kit out and about for a test drive.

Performance

To brew, it’s easy. First, I took all the nesting components out of the tumbler and gave everything a quick rinse. Then, I placed a filter paper inside the filter basket and slotted it into the chamber. I set the chamber on top of the flask. It sat comfortably, feeling well-balanced.

Next, I added my coffee grounds with the small scoop provided and poured over boiling water to my desired level (more water means less strength). I stirred gently for around 20 seconds, then waited a couple of minutes. Finally, I plunged the press down to pour the coffee into the flask, with a satisfying hiss.

On the taste test, it performed just like other AeroPress models I’ve tried – the coffee was rich, flavorful, and well-rounded. I could taste the specialty beans in my americano: a touch of nuttiness and deep bitter-chocolate notes, with a light crema sitting on top. The tumbler kept it warm and enjoyable to sip at a relaxed pace, too. It definitely has the edge in the French Press vs AeroPress debate for me.

Is it bag-friendly and spill-proof?

Yes and no. The AeroPress Go Plus system fit into my bag (and my car cup holder, for that matter), containing all the accessories and filters in the tumbler, which was very satisfying.

Once I got to my office, I brewed the coffee and enjoyed a warm americano at my desk. While the tumbler was in use, the AeroPress and components lay stacked on the side of my desk, which was a little inconvenient. I wished there was a separate pouch or something I could hide them away in.

I decided to make another brew and take it out on a walk at lunch, but before I did so, I checked the lid for leaks. I poured water into the tumbler and shook it around. Water trickled out of the drinking hole. It would be fine upright, but you do not want to jostle the AeroPress Go Plus in your bag if it's filled with coffee, unless you want to destroy your belongings.

Having tested some fantastic leak-proof designs on the best portable blenders, I was a little disappointed.

Cleaning, storage & maintenance

While the AeroPress Go Plus is technically dishwasher safe, I’d probably recommend hand washing it. Coffee grounds can easily get trapped in small crevices, and if you don’t clean them out properly, they can leave a stale or slightly sour note in future brews (I've been there, done that, do not recommend).

Hand washing is super quick and easy to perform anywhere you go. Just pop off the base, remove the filter, and give everything a rinse with warm soapy water. It's over and done with in minutes; you can leave it out to dry or speed things up with a dish towel. The clear Tritan plastic doesn't fog up or mist, so it stays looking fresh for next time.

How does it compare?

The AeroPress Original and the AeroPress Go Plus both brew coffee the same way, so in terms of taste you won’t notice a difference – smooth and rich, with all the flexibility AeroPress fans love. The real distinction is in the design and how you plan to use it.

The Original is the classic version: simple, affordable, and made from durable, BPA-free polypropylene. It doesn’t include a mug or flask, so you’ll need your own. It’s ideal if you want a cheaper AeroPress for brewing at home without extra bulk.

The AeroPress Go Plus, on the other hand, is built as a full travel system. The brewer is made from tough Tritan plastic, and everything nests inside the stainless steel tumbler. The insulation means your coffee stays hot (or cold, if you're an iced americano person) and it’s convenient for brewing on the go. If it is obviously heavier and pricier than the Original, but the all-in-one design is hard to beat for travel.

Should you buy it?

I don't think AeroPress has thought of everything with this design, but it's certainly good. If you want delicious coffee on the go, without BPA or plastic cups, the AeroPress Go Plus is worth it.

The best part is that everything stacks inside the tumbler and that's very convenient for packing into your bag or suitcase. It makes a good gift for frequent travelers or a teen going to college or on a gap year.

However, if you already have an AeroPress Original, I might be tempted to stick with that and just invest in one of the best leak-proof travel mugs to go with it, instead. Although you'll have to reckon with your suitcase space.

How we test

'However, H&M's papyrus oud candle manages to blend my favorite sweet orange with a rich, woody undertone that feels like the perfect way to transition my home for the new season. If you know anything about French copper cookware, you’ll know it doesn’t come cheap. The most iconic brand, Mauviel, charges a small fortune for a single saucepan (think $300-$400 at least).

When looking for ways to bring the look home for less, I stumbled on some copper exterior pans at IKEA that are much more affordable and examples of some of the best induction pans, too, if you don't have a rustic French stove to match.

IKEA’s take on French copper cookware certainly looks the part, but it's not quite the real deal. The FINMAT series is made primarily of stainless steel (which is still a fantastic cooking material) with a thin copper cladding on the exterior.

Authentic copper cookware is crafted from thicker, solid copper and lined with stainless steel instead. I've tested one like this from Hestan (it's my winner in our best non-toxic cookware guide). Here, the copper isn’t just decorative – it’s structural, delivering the legendary responsiveness chefs love. Copper is one of the best heat conductors, reacting quickly to changes in temperature, thus perfect for precise sauces (think caramel or our lavender custard dessert recipe)

That said, IKEA’s version of French copper cookware has plenty of love from customers, with reviews averaging four stars. One says: 'Quick to heat up and an even temperature maintained throughout cooking. Love love!' Another praised the design: 'I have a set of these hanging from my pot rack above my island and they’ve tarnished beautifully… Most importantly though, they cook superbly and quickly...'

IKEA’s pans won’t deliver the same performance as professional-grade copper, but they do capture the warm, golden glow that makes copper so appealing. For many home cooks, that’s enough: you get the French copper cookware look, easy care thanks to the stainless steel interior, and a fraction of the price tag.

Back in my own home, I’ll certainly be simmering ratatouille in one of IKEA’s copper pans, and slowly building a collection to hang above the stove (I've got one of these pot racks from Home Depot, ready and waiting).

An added bonus of the Casper adjustable base is its vibration mode. This might seem like a nuisance to some sleepers, but it's another reason why the bed is such a great option for those suffering from pesky aches and pains – or anyone looking for a luxurious, spa-like experience.

'I found the vibrating function relaxing: it helped to lull me to sleep, the same way a white noise machine might,' our tester stated. 'Luckily, the vibrations aren't so loud as to disturb you while you sleep. I managed to sleep right the way through the night with the vibrating function on, more than once.'

With a wireless remote that allows you to raise the head, foot and legs, the Casper adjustable base offers near-limitless customization. It is worth noting, however, that sleeping on an adjustable bed may take some adjustment of its own – and our tester remarked that assembling the frame proved rather time-consuming.

Yet such minor inconveniences are easily outweighed by the praise it continues to receive. The base holds an impressive 4.4-star average on Casper’s site, with reviewers celebrating both its quality and comfort. As for me, I find myself increasingly tempted by the best Labor Day deals – after all, learning how to sleep better is priceless.

That's not the case with the Hestan ProBond Luxe 12.5 inch Polished Clad Stainless Steel Skillet. At a steep $250, it delivers luxury in every sense – from the mirror-like steel exterior to the carefully considered design details that ensure excellent searing performance and comfortable handling. It’s worth its weight in gold.

It is certainly not one of the cheapest, best non-toxic cookware brands out there, so I put the brand's new release to the test for a week in my kitchen, comparing it with cheaper stainless steel pans from brands like All-Clad and Made In. Here's everything you need to know before investing.

Design & first impressions

When I lifted the ProBond Luxe skillet out of the elegant white box it arrived in, it felt more like art than cookware. The mirror-polished stainless steel catches the light beautifully, instantly elevating the kitchen and getting me excited to cook.

But it’s not just shiny surfaces and good looks; the engineering is equally impressive. The tri-ply stainless steel construction ensures durability and prevents warping, while the domed handles, designed with input from Chef Thomas Keller, feel ergonomic and balanced in the hand.

The rivets sit flush with the skillet's interior, which is different from most other pans I've tested, which tend to gather food residue around the bolts. The rim of the pan is smooth and rounded; it's no wonder the collection won a Red Dot Design award.

The Hestan ProBond Luxe skillets are made in Italy, which adds to the premium feel. I tested the largest 12.5-inch size (which was quite enormous on my induction stove), but it's also available in a smaller 8.5-inch and 11-inch, better suited to more everyday cooking tasks. Honestly, I wish I had gotten a more practical size, but this is what the brand sent me for testing – and beggars can't be choosers.

Cooking performance

The first test of every pan for me is sautéed onions. The responsiveness of the ProCore™ aluminum was noticeable – the Hestan ProBond Luxe skillet came up to temperature fast, and every adjustment on the hob was reflected quickly. There was no burning or sticking, and my onions were nicely caramelized.

Next, I seared two steak fillets with butter, garlic cloves, and fresh rosemary. Again, the skillet heated fast. I added oil and swirled it into a shimmering layer, then arranged the two large fillets with plenty of space between them. The meat cooked evenly, forming a golden, crusty sear while staying perfectly medium-rare inside. The butter browned beautifully, and the rounded edges made basting easy, though I found the pan a little heavy to tilt and control comfortably with my weak wrists. I served the steak to my family, who all agreed it was the best I'd ever cooked – praise indeed!

Finally, I tried a stove-to-oven recipe drilled into me at cookery school: chicken suprême. I rendered the chicken in the skillet first; the spacious cooking surface and even heat created a deeply golden, crispy skin in no time. Then I transferred the entire pan to the oven. It was heavy and alarmingly large, but thankfully, it did fit into my oven (just). After about 12 minutes, I removed the chicken and let it rest. I quickly deglazed the pan on the stove with a splash of stock. The fond lifted effortlessly, and I was able to reduce a rich, glossy sauce that bubbled evenly – a sign of even cooking. Overall, the Hestan ProBond Luxe skillet passed with flying colors.

Cleaning & maintainance

Despite cooking crispy chicken and steak, clean-up was simple after my tests. There weren’t any stubborn bits hiding in crevices around the rivets. A quick wash with warm, soapy water and a silicone dish scrubber (I like ones like these from Walmart) left it spotless.

The Hestan ProBond Luxe skillet is also dishwasher-safe; there is a sealed rim design on every piece in the ProBond Luxe collection, which limits the risk of delamination or corrosion over time. However, the 12-inch skillet was way too big for my dishwasher. I’d always recommend hand-washing anyway to keep that mirror-finish steel looking smart.

How does it compare?

I have tested a few other stainless steel skillets that make good points of comparison. First, the Made In Stainless Steel pan – which is reliable quality at a more affordable price point (around $139). But side by side (see above), the ProBond Luxe skillet looks and feels like a more luxury piece – it’s heavier, shinier, and designed with more attention to detail. For example, the handle is infinitely more comfortable and I found the flush rivets easier to clean.

A closer competitor, with a similar tri-ply construction, is the All-Clad Stainless Steel Skillet, which retails for around $150 on Amazon, including a steel lid – again, offering better value for money.

Founded in 1971, All-Clad cookware has a classic aesthetic, but without the design flourish of Hestan. By contrast, Hestan is a relative newcomer (founded in 2015), and it feels as though the designers set out to prove themselves. Every detail comes across as an upgrade in both performance and appearance. The company claims its ProCore™ aluminum core conducts heat 35% faster than standard clad cookware, and in my experience, it did heat noticeably quicker than any other pan I’ve tested.

All-Clad’s greatest strengths, however, lie in its cheaper price tag and longevity credentials. It has been around for decades, and its durability is beyond dispute. I have every confidence that Hestan’s ProBond Luxe can rise to that same heirloom status, but only time will tell. Both brands, reassuringly, back their pans with a lifetime limited warranty.

What do customer reviews say?

Since Hestan ProBond Luxe is a brand-new collection, there aren’t many customer reviews available yet. I'll come back to update this review, as I always like to assess how pans go down with home cooks in real-life kitchens. I will also continue to test the Hestan ProBond Luxe skillet at home for around 3-6 months, and update this review with any unexpected pros or cons that arise.

Should you buy it?

If you value both performance and aesthetics, a Hestan ProBond Luxe skillet makes cooking feel elevated. To my mind, it surpasses classic stainless steel brands, like All-Clad, in performance, while adding luxury details that make it not only beautiful, but highly enjoyable to use.

That said, it comes at a premium price point. If you’re after purely functional stainless steel, more affordable options exist. But if you want cookware that’s as beautiful as it is capable, or you're a pro-cook who doesn't mind the investment, I do think Hestan ProBond Luxe is worth the splurge. You'll just have to reckon it with your bank balance first.

How I test skillets

A great frying pan has to tick all the boxes: versatility, manageable weight, brilliant cooking performance, and, crucially, ease of cleaning.

Different materials bring different strengths and challenges. Cast iron retains heat beautifully and creates a stunning sear, but it’s heavy and requires seasoning to stay non-stick. Stainless steel is durable and non-reactive, but cheaper models can stick and discolor over time. Enamel-coated pans offer easy cleaning and vibrant finishes, yet they can chip, and non-stick pans are convenient but vary widely in quality, with some losing their coating after just a few months.

I use every pan I test for over a month to see how it fares over time. I’ve owned many that impressed me at first, only to stick, stain, or ruin ingredients after prolonged use – there's nothing worse, especially when you’ve forked out hard-earned cash.

Price matters. Mid-range brands like Made In or Our Place fall between $100–$200, but high-end options such as Hestan or Le Creuset can easily top $250, promising luxury finishes and superior performance, but only a thorough test reveals whether the premium is justified.

When I’m testing, I look for a pan that can handle everything: from delicately frying an egg to searing a steak with a perfect crust. It should feel balanced in your hand — not so heavy it’s tiring to lift, but substantial enough to hold and distribute heat evenly. I like to challenge pans with notoriously sticky or delicate recipes: tofu, halloumi, paneer, steak, and fried eggs. I assess how they cook, how the pan handles the residue, and how easy it is to clean afterward – because no one wants to scrub endlessly after dinner.

Ingredients

• For the cake:
• 1 stick (or a half cup) unsalted butter (at room temperature), plus 1 teaspoon for the cake pan
• Half cup milk (at room temperature)
• 2 large eggs
• 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
• 1 ½ cups sugar
• 1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
• Half teaspoon baking powder
• Half teaspoon baking soda
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• Half teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
• Quarter teaspoon ground allspice
• Quarter teaspoon ground cloves
• Half teaspoon of coarse salt
• For the frosting (optional):
• 8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
• Half a stick (or a quarter cup) unsalted butter (at room temperature), cut into pieces
• 1 cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
• Half teaspoon coarse salt

Method

• Preheat your oven to 350°F and brush the bottom and sides of a 9” x 11” cake pan with butter. (I use these VINAUO sheet pans from Walmart). Line the pan with parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on 2 sides.
• Whisk together the flour, baking powder and baking soda, then mix in the cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and salt.
• In a separate bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree and milk.
• Beat the sugar and butter together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes). A stand mixer will be easiest here, but a hand whisk also works.
• Crack the eggs into the butter and sugar mixture and beat until combined.
• While beating at low speed, add the flour mixture in three batches, alternating with the pumpkin mixture and beating until just combined.
• Pour the batter into your prepared pan, smooth the top with a spatula, and bake for about 35 minutes (or until a cake tester inserted into the middle comes out clean). Transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.
• To make the frosting, beat the cream cheese, butter and salt until light and creamy (around 2 minutes). Reduce your mixer speed to low and gradually add in the confectioners' sugar, beating until incorporated.
• Once the cake has cooled, spread the icing over the top and cut into 12 bars.

'It's hydrangea season and this is one way to style them really simply in your home,' says Rachel. Here she talks us through how to create an elegant and sophisticated summer table centerpiece, using hydrangea heads grown in your garden or bought from a local florist, in three easy steps.

1. Start with a low vase

'You're going to need a low and quite wide vessel,' says Rachel. She picks a large round clear glass vase with a rim, but you can also opt for more colorful versions or simple ceramic ones.

'If you can find one with a slightly narrower neck that's also going to do you some favors because it will give your stems a bit more support,' Rachel adds.

2. Measure the stems

'So we'll take our beautiful hydrangeas,' Rachel uses mophead hydrangeas here, 'and we want to take off these leaves first as they're a bit dominant,' she explains.

'Then I'm going to cut the stem. A good trick is to actually measure it against the vase you've got to see how long your stem is, and you don't cut too much off.' Rachel places her stem upright on the table alongside the vase to measure how much she wants to trim from the bottom.

She cuts it on the diagonal and checks, before trimming a little more and places the stem into the vase.

3. Repeat and display with pride

'For this design we'll use three heads' Rachel says, before trimming and measuring the next two against the height of the vase as before. 'Once you've got them all in they will support each other,' she explains.

Rachel suggests recreating this display a few more times. 'Make three or five of them and place them along the centre of a long dining table.' This makes a perfect long table setting idea for late summer. 'It will just look so effective and is really simple to do,' adds Rachel.
